Memorial Day -- A Haiku

Also in the day
Of your gladness and delight,
Fete thy vouchsafement.

Revel, clap hands, dance;
Savor the young men's return:
Winners; the top dog.

Call up the fallen,
Remember their mighty deeds:
Ritual.......giving.

Blood infuses life:
Their sacrifice was guiltless;
Yet the blood was used

In unholy ways:
Freedoms paid for; commandeered;
Annexed by the few.

Oh, that I may see,
The good of Thy chosen land,
That I may rejoice,

And leap for glee in
The gladness of Thy nation;
In Thine endowment
