Seeded Within

Who can understand,
The grim darkness,
Within the heart of man?
For there is,
Beyond the range
Of conscience;
And the rage
Of consciousness;
A wild and bitter root,
Seeded, within us all:
Cleanse Thou me, Oh Lord,
From this secret gloom.
